Marcus Samuelsson trained at the Culinary Institute of Gothernburg before immigrating to the U.S. He joined the staff of Aquavit, an upscale Swedish restaurant in New York City, eventually becoming executive chef and partner, winning high praise for his inventive cooking. In 2010, he opened Red Rooster Harlem, which serves American comfort food and pays homage to the culture and history of Harlem. He has made many television appearances and his memoir Yes Chef, was published in 2012. As a child, Samuelsson was adopted by a Swedish couple after his biological parents died in a tuberculosis epidemic. Updated 2012
