Rafael Reif is the 17th President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has served as a faculty member since 1980. In his previous role as provost, he expanded the Institute’s global reach, helped to eliminate a $50 million structural deficit during the financial downturn, and led the development of the Institute’s online learning initiatives edX and MITx, for which he won the 2012 Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Award. As an electrical engineer, he is named on 15 patents and has edited five books. He was named the Fariborz Maseeh Professor of Emerging Technology in 2004. Updated 2012
