Born in Beijing, major general John L. Fugh served as the first Chinese-American general officer of the U.S. Army. He was also the first minority to serve as judge advocate general, the Army's top uniformed legal post, serving as a legal advisor to the army chief of staff during the Persian Gulf War. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, and two awards of the Legion of Merit. After retiring from the Army, he served in the private sector as a China liaison to major corporations. Updated 2009
