Born in 1955 in Mogadishu, Somalia, supermodel Iman was discovered by a photographer while she was a student at the University of Nairobi. Moving to New York, Iman began appearing on runways and in magazines including "Vogue" and "Harper's Bazaar," immediately becoming a favorite in the fashion world. After retiring from modeling in 1989, she launched a highly successful line of cosmetics for women of color. Iman, who also happens to be married to the pop star David Bowie, has also raised funds for organizations including Marion Wright Edelman's Children's Defense Fund and Break the Cycle an organization committed to ending domestic violence.
