For the majority of his career, physicist Freeman Dyson served as a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. The biggest breakthrough in his career, the synthesis of three independent theories of quantum electrodynamics into a single unified theory, came to him in an epiphany while on a bus returning home from vacation. He has published acclaimed books on the subjects of cosmology, nuclear physics, technology, weapons control and philosophy. Updated 2008
