Feniosky Peńa-Mora is an engineering professor and former dean of Columbia University. Arriving in New York City at the age of 21 unable to speak English, he took several concurrent English classes around the city and was soon admitted to MIT, where he earned his master’s and doctorate degrees. He has received international acknowledgment for his research and holds five patents. Among his many honors he received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers as well as the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Updated 2014
