Designer Elie Tahari built one of the most successful fashion brands in the world with a presence in more than 40 countries and 600 retail locations in the U.S. After spending his childhood at an orphanage in Israel, in 1971 he moved to New York City finding work as an electrician and a salesman in a small boutique. Tahari soon began designing his own line of dance dresses inspired by the disco music craze. His brand continues to expand into new markets around the world and develop new lines including accessories and menswear. Updated 2009
