Daniel Laurison

Daniel Laurison is assistant professor of sociology at Swarthmore College and the associate editor of the British Journal of Sociology. His research is on inequalities of class, race, and political participation, with a particular interest in the ways social position shapes how people understand the world around them.

His most recent publication is “Class Mobility and Reproduction for Black and White Adults in the United States: A Visualization,” and he is coauthor with Sam Friedman of The Class Ceiling: Why it Pays to Be Privileged. His forthcoming book with Beacon Press will look at how campaign professionals define American democracy. His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Social Science Research Council.

His project, “Missing Voices: Why Poor and Working-Class People Avoid Politics,” aims to address inequalities in political participation by working with poor and working-class people to understand how they view electoral politics.
