Author of six novels and two short story collections Colum McCann, who began his career as a journalist in The Irish Press, achieved international fame for his novel Let the Great World Spin, which won the 2009 National Book Award in the U.S., and the 2010 Best Foreign Novel Award in China. He is active in charity work, co-founding the organization Narrative 4, which works to promote empathy through sharing stories. He also teaches creative writing at Hunter College. Updated 2012
