The current Mary Richardson Professor of History at Tufts University, Ayesha Jalal was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. After receiving her bachelor’s degree at Wellesley College, she earned her doctorate in history at the University of Cambridge. The author of several books on South Asia including Partisans of Allah: Jihad in South Asia, published by Harvard University Press in 2008, she is a noted scholar who provides unique insights on the cultures and histories of Pakistan and India. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 1998 and joined the faculty of Tufts University in 1999. Updated 2012
