Andrew Thomas

With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Adelaide in Australia, Andrew S. W. Thomas started his career as a research scientist with the Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company in 1977. After moving to Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1989 to work on NASA-sponsored research, he was hired by NASA in 1992 and appointed a member of the astronaut corps. He flew his first flight in space as a payload commander on Endeavour in 1996 and has since logged more than 177 days in space. He retired from NASA in 2014. Updated 2012
