Andrew Grove

Born in Budapest in 1936, Andrew S. Grove is widely credited for the enormous success of Intel. He joined the company, which created the first microprocessor, in 1968. IBM later chose its 8088 microchip to power the world's first PC, and now Intel chips are found in virtually every computer. Grove served as president, chairman and CEO from 1979 to 2005. He was named "TIME" magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1997. As a philanthropist, he has made major donations toward medical and educational causes. Updated 2007
