Carnegie Corporation of New York welcomed leadership from more than 20 Carnegie institutions, along with Carnegie family members, to New York for a week of special events culminating in the awarding of the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy.

"Medals Week celebrates Andrew Carnegie’s enduring legacy of philanthropy, which is rooted in two core principles: that with wealth comes responsibility, and that individuals, whether guided by religious, civic, humanistic, or democratic aspirations, have transformative power to use wealth to advance the public good," said Carnegie Corporation of New York President Vartan Gregorian, who chairs the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy committee."This award recognizes the living representatives of Carnegie’s legacy."

This award, created at the centennial observance of Mr. Carnegie’s official career as a philanthropist, is given annually to individuals who, like Andrew Carnegie, have dedicated their private wealth to the public good and who have impressive careers as philanthropists.
