Edward
M. Sermier brings extensive management experience, analytical, and
financial skills to Carnegie Corporation of New York where he serves
as vice president, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary; director of program evaluation,
responsible for the day-to-day management of the Corporation’s
administrative functions, including grants management and financial
accountability as well as the evaluation of the Corporation's programs.
Sermier
has a long history of public service in New York City where he began
his career with the Board of Education. He joined the Corporation
as vice president under President Vartan Gregorian after six years
as the chief financial officer of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
There he directed the financial, human resources, information system
and strategic planning activities of the orchestra while overseeing
the $150 million dollar endowment.
Sermier
left city government as deputy director of the office of operations
for the Office of the Mayor of New York City. He spent two years
as deputy vice president of the New York City Transit Authority,
responsible for its $12 billion dollar capital budget, and ten years
with the New York City Board of Education. At the Board, he served
as senior assistant to the Chancellor for business operations, budget
director and as chief administrator of the division of special education.
Sermier
has lectured extensively on urban public management and on public
and nonprofit finance management at New York University, Columbia
University, and Baruch College.
Sermier
earned his B.S. at Manhattan College and his M.B.A. at Columbia
University. He is married and the father of two daughters.
