Senior
Investment Position - Real Estate and Resources
Carnegie
Corporation of New York is a major private foundation, established
in 1911 by Andrew Carnegie “to promote the advancement and
diffusion of knowledge.” With assets of approximately $2.9
billion, the portfolio is invested in a wide range of asset classes
and strategies, with a significant commitment to alternative investments,
including real estate and resources.
The
individual will be responsible for the Corporation’s real
estate and resources program, primarily located in the U.S., including
private and public real estate investments. In addition they will
coordinate with the Director of Private Equity on asset-based private
equity strategies. Real Estate and Resources represents approximately
11.5% of total assets. This allocation is likely to rise over time.
The
overall portfolio has a significant allocation to alternative investments,
including private equity, private real estate and absolute return,
and also to emerging markets. The portfolio is managed by a small
team of investment professionals who work collaboratively. While
each individual has responsibility for specific asset classes, the
investment staff often works in teams on projects and investments
that cut across multiple asset classes. The individual will report
to the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer but will work
closely with the entire investment and finance staff at the Corporation.
Major
responsibilities will include:

Oversight of the real estate and resources portfolio. The individual
will monitor existing managers and identify and evaluate new potential
managers, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Staying
abreast of capital markets conditions to pro-actively identify
investment opportunities.
- Establishing
and maintaining relationships with colleagues within the institutional
investment community and among the investment manager community.

Serving as a public representative of the Corporation.

Performing broad portfolio analysis and research.

Writing and presenting investment recommendations to the Corporation’s
investment committee.

Conducting special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- A
strong academic record.

Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills.

A fundamental passion for the investment process and an intellectual
interest in the financial markets.

General knowledge of financial principles, modern portfolio theory,
asset allocation and portfolio strategies in traditional and alternative
asset classes.

A strong commitment to the Corporation’s mission.
- A
collaborative work style and a willingness to perform a wide range
of tasks.

Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally.

MBA or CFA and several years of related work experience; and,

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
The
specific title of the position and the compensation package are
flexible and will depend upon the individual’s qualifications
and experience.
