Carnegie Corporation of New York has initiated a one-time grant program for journalism schools to undertake specific science journalism curriculum projects.

The program is designed to respond to the decline in the mainstream media of thoughtful and consistent coverage of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)—as well as reporting on how these topics are taught in our nation’s public schools. The program will provide support to journalism schools offering new courses in science journalism to expand student interest in reporting on the sciences, health, nutrition, the environment and agriculture and the teaching thereof in our nation’s classrooms.

The program will provide as many as three grants, up to $150,000 each, for a total period of two years. Applications are open to any graduate journalism program in the United States.

Timeline

The timeline for the application process is as follows:

February 24th: Letters of Intent due

March 16th: Selected finalists will be requested to submit full proposals

April 13th: Full proposals for finalists due June 14th: Finalists will be notified of results

June 14th: Finalists will be notified of results
