Vartan Gregorian, Carnegie Corporation’s twelfth president, discusses Andrew Carnegie’s vision of philanthropy and a century of the foundation’s accomplishments. The Scottish-born immigrant, who many call the father of modern philanthropy, distinguished his giving not by making charitable contributions to the poor and less fortunate, but by focusing on the causes of their suffering.
