How To Apply
Carnegie Corporation of New York requires a Letter of Inquiry submitted via this website to initiate the grant application process. Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis; there are no deadlines. Please note that we do not seek, and rarely fund, unsolicited grant applications.
If your organization is interested in determining if project support from Carnegie Corporation is likely, and then submitting a Letter of Inquiry, please:
• Carefully review all of the information about our grantmaking programs, goals and strategies, and any funding exclusions. Read the program descriptions to see if the proposed project aligns with the Corporation’s priorities and funding strategies; and
• Visit the Grants Database to review organizations that have recently received funding from Carnegie Corporation.
If you believe the project does align with Carnegie Corporation’s priorities and funding strategies as outlined in the program descriptions, a link to START and online application can be found at the bottom of each program description page.
If the project does not align with the Corporation’s priorities and funding strategies as outlined in the program descriptions, please visit the list of other philanthropic resources to help identify other possible funding sources.
Applicants will be notified via email if their Letter of Inquiry is declined, or if they have been invited to submit a full proposal. This process usually takes 4-6 weeks. Only full proposals that have been invited will be considered.
Due to the large volume of online submissions we receive, we cannot respond to phone calls requesting status updates on a submitted Letter of Inquiry.
